FAQ

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Where does the SLP or LD specialist meet with my child?
Our staff serves children at our office and at some private schools in the area.

What if my child has not had an evaluation?
We will provide an evaluation or are happy to construct a treatment plan from other recent evaluations.

What is the difference between a screening and an evaluation?
A screening is brief. The purpose of a screening is to determine whether a child should be further evaluated or whether they demonstrate age appropriate skills.
An evaluation is an in-depth assessment of a child’s speech, language and/or literacy skills. At the end of the evaluation, a complete written report, along with recommendations and a treatment plan (as necessary) is provided.

Is speech-language treatment covered by insurance?
Some medical insurance policies will cover speech and language services. You will need to submit a copy of the itemized billing statement that you receive from us at the end of each month, a letter from your physician stating the medical necessity of the referral, and the medical diagnostic code. Please note that we require payment from you when you are billed. You may later receive reimbursement from your insurance company. Every insurance plan is different. It is a good idea to contact your insurance carrier to determine if your plan covers speech-language evaluations and treatment.

What are the Cancellation and Make-up Policies?
Once a treatment schedule has been set, the time is being reserved for you. If you must cancel an appointment, we require 24 hours notice. The Speech-Language Pathologist or Learning Disability Specialist must have received the message before your session or it will be considered a broken appointment, and you will be charged. If your child receives treatment at their school and will be going on a field trip or is sick, we must have notification the day before in order for you to be offered a make-up sessions.
If you must cancel an appointment, please call or e-mail your provider at home the day or evening before the session or before 8:00 am. Appointments can also be cancelled by calling our office (301) 493-4695
